Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Director of Tennis Lauren Leo today announced the signing of Giulia Leone to a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at Hofstra. Leone will begin her academic and athletic career at Hofstra in the Fall 2013.
“We are very pleased to have Giulia join the Pride family,” commented Leo. “She is a great fit academically as well as athletically. I believe that she will be able to contribute to the success of the Hofstra Women’s Tennis program.”
Leone, a native of Lima, Peru, will join the Pride after attending high school at Newton College in Lima. While attending Newton, Leone was the recipient of several awards including the 2012 Sports Excellence and Economic Excellence Awards, the 2011 British Schools of Peru Short Story, Math Excellence and Spanish Excellence Awards, and the 2010 English Excellence Award.
Active on the junior tennis circuit, Leone chose Hofstra over Wingate, Grand Valley State and Adelphi. She is Leo's first recruit since becoming Hofstra's director of tennis in February.
