Hempstead, NY  - The Hofstra men and women's tennis teams open their dual match season Saturday when both teams welcome Rider to the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center at 2 p.m.

The Hofstra men have competed at one event this season – the Stony Brook Invitational. Senior Beau Wills advanced to the main draw semifinals in Flight A at the event, while senior Adrien Bailly (Flight B) and sophomore Leo Pires (Flight C) earned consolation bracket championships. Pires and sophomore Joseph Erichsen teamed up to advance to the semifinals of Flight A doubles. Junior Ari Richman and senior Matthew Gemmell also return to the team in 2013-14. Richman and Bailly were All-Colonial Athletic Association third team selections in doubles last season.

The Pride women will be making their 2013-14 debut in the match. The Pride boast returning All-CAA third team selection Sarah Bowen, who returns for her sophomore season, as well as returnees Louise Lopez and Bianca Derrick. Bowen won 12 matches for the Pride as a freshman, while classmate Lopez posted a team-high 13 singles wins. Derrick, who is entering her third season with the program, is Hofstra's most experienced player. Hofstra also welcomes newcomers Giulia Leone, Carmen Pestano and Bianca Posa to the team.

Rider’s men’s team enters the match with a 1-1 record following a win over Rutgers-Camden this past Wednesday. The Broncs opened the season with a loss at Fairfield on September 11.

The women’s team comes to Hempstead with an 0-3 mark following losses to Fairfield, Manhattan and Saint Peter's.
