Hempstead, NY – With just a month left in the Fifth Annual Former Student-Athlete Participation Challenge presented by The Hofstra Pride Club, the Women’s Golf program has extended their lead with 393 points.

The Softball team is currently in second place with 211 points. For the second consecutive year, the Women’s Soccer program is making a strong push to keep their crown as a five-time champion. They have a lot of work to do in order to win, but with 142 points and a month to go, history has shown they have a chance to capture the top gift.

Wrestling has been on the move the last two weeks, taking the lead in the Increase Competition from Cross Country. Softball is still holding onto the lead in the Young Alumni Competition. The Young Alumni Competition encourages former student-athletes who graduated between 2004-2013 to make a gift and support their team.

It’s not too late to support your team by making a donation to The Hofstra Pride Club of $25 or more by May 31, 2014. If you have already contributed to Hofstra Athletics – you can extend your commitment and help your program by encouraging teammates to join The Hofstra Pride Club.

Information about the Challenge:

Participation Competition
Each Hofstra Athletics team recruits as many of their former student-athletes to join The Hofstra Pride Club and donate $25 or more. The team with the most points will win the competition and earn a $5,000 gift to their program.

How the Scoring Works: The percentage of alumni giving will be multiplied by 1000. Example: 100 former student-athletes who have made a gift of $25 or more out of 500 former student-athletes= .2x1000 = 200 points. As an added bonus an additional two points can be earned for each gift made online by a former student-athlete between now and May 31.

Increase Competition
The team with the greatest percentage increase of former student-athletes giving from last year to this year will win a $2,500 gift.

Young Alumni Competition
Each team will compete for the highest percentage of their own young alumni joining The Hofstra Pride Club. A young alumnus is someone who graduated between 2004 and 2013. The team with the highest percentage will win $2,500, with second place receiving $1,500 and third receiving $1,000.

*Each team can only win one gift*
