Hempstead, N.Y. – Leah Galton was chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, the league announced today.

Hofstra also was well-represented on the All-CAA Preseason Team with senior forward Sam Scolarici, junior midfielders Jeannine Molleda and sophomore Jill Mulholland joining Galton on the squad, as voted by the conference’s head coaches (voting for their own players was not permitted).

Galton, a junior forward, has been recognized as the league’s top player by CAA coaches for a third straight ballot. Galton was the 2013 CAA Preseason Player of the Year and was the league’s overall Player of the Year following a sophomore campaign in which she scored eight goals and posted 11 assists for 27 points.

A two-time NSCAA first-team all-region and All-CAA selection, Galton finished 2013 just one assist shy of setting Hofstra’s single-season record that has stood since 1994. Her point total was tied for the eighth-highest single-season number in program history and her assist figure was 20th in Division I.

Galton has 54 points in 41 career games with 19 goals and 16 assists. Last week, she was one of just 63 total NCAA Division I student-athletes selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, making her a candidate for the most prestigious individual honor in college soccer.

Scolarici set Hofstra’s single-season goal record with CAA-leading 18, breaking the previous mark of 17 that stood since 1994 in a breakout campaign in 2013. The Aldie, Virginia native also lead the league with 38 points while her goal total was tied for the 10th-most in Division I. Scolarici posted four multi-goal games, including her first career hat trick against the College of Charleston.

Molleda posted five goals and five assists a year ago and was also a third-team All-CAA pick. Mulholland contributed six goals and five assists in 2012 to earn a spot on the All-CAA first team, but missed all but the first three games of last year due to injury.

Hofstra will begin the 2014 season on Aug. 22 at UConn with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
