Hempstead, NY – Senior Daphna Voormolen tallied a goal and an assist to lead the 12th-ranked Great Danes of Albany to a 4-1 victory over the Hofstra Pride in a non-conference game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Albany improved to 13-3 on the season while Hofstra, which dropped its fourth consecutive game all to a top 20 opponent, fell to 5-11 on the year.

Hofstra junior Jonel Boileau tallied her 12th goal of the season at the 51:07 mark, burying a rebound past Albany goalie Maxi Primus (2 saves). But by that time, the Great Danes had a 3-1 lead and would add their final goal 11 minutes later. Hofstra senior goalie Kaitlyn De Turo tallied double-digit saves for the sixth time this season with 10 stops. Hofstra was outshot 23-4 in the contest.

The Great Danes scored three times in the first half as Voormolen, who created havoc all day, figured on the first two goals. She assisted on senior Corrine McConville’s eighth goal of the year on a give and go off a penalty corner at the 17:28 mark. Almost five minutes later, Voormolen scored her 14th goal of the season off her own rebound for a 2-0 lead. Junior Amy Nicklin gave the Great Danes a 3-0 lead at the 27:23 mark off a pass from sophomore Celia D’Agostino. Albany outshot the Pride, 10-2 in the first 35 minutes.

Boileau’s goal gave Hofstra some hope against Division I’s top defense. But Albany shut the Pride offense down the rest of the way and added a final goal with just 7:27 to play as junior Kelly Bonner notched her sixth goal of the season from freshman Paula Heuser. The Great Danes took eight penalty corners to Hofstra’s one in the contest.

The Pride return to CAA play on Friday, October 25 when they host the Blue Hens of Delaware. Game time at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium is 3 p.m.
