Tallahassee, FL - Sean Gilmartin allowed three runs over six innings and All-American Mike McGee had three hits to help #8 Florida State to a 14-3 victory over Hofstra Friday evening at Dick Howser Stadium. Joe Perez had a two-run home run for the Pride.
The Seminoles improve to 5-0 with the win, while the Pride fall to 0-4. Hofstra starter Jared Rogers drops to 0-1 after allowing seven hits, five walks and nine runs in three innings. Gilmartin ups his record to 2-0.
The Seminoles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their half of the first. A one out walk to Sherman Johnson and a McGee single to right put runners on the corners before Jayce Boyd cleared the bases with a double. Rafael Lopez then doubled in Boyd for the final run of the inning.
The Pride got two runs back in the second when T.J. Thomas led off with a single and Perez followed with his first home run of the season. But Florida State stormed back with four runs in the bottom of the inning for a 7-2 advantage. Justin Gonzalez hit a solo home run to make it 4-2. Johnson then had a two-out single and McGee walked before James Ramsey drove in three runs with an inside the park home run.
Hofstra scratched out a run in the third inning as they put together a two-out rally. Scott A'Hara and Dylan Nasiatka recorded back-to-back singles and then T.J. Thomas singled to short with a throwing error allowing A'Hara to score.
Florida State would add three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the eighth to complete the scoring.
A'Hara and Thomas finished with two hits apiece for the Pride. McGee's three hits paced a 15-hit outburst for the Seminoles. Boyd, Lopez and Seth Miller each added two hits on the evening.
The series continues with game two tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. Rob Kumbatovic is slated to get the start for the Pride. He will be opposed by Brian Busch.
