Tallahassee, FL - Florida State All-American Mike McGee had three hits, including a grand slam home run, and six RBIs to lead the eighth-ranked Seminoles to a 16-3 win over the Pride Saturday evening at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles erased a 3-0 first inning deficit to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Hofstra (0-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Danny Poma led off with a double and came in to score one batter later as Dylan Nasiatka followed with a double of his own. After a sacrifice bunt, T.J. Thomas delivered a run-scoring single for a 2-0 lead. A double by Bryan Verbitsky put runners on second and third for Logan Davis , who drove in Thomas with the third run on a groundout to first.
The Seminoles plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning as McGee had an RBI single and Jayce Boyd had an RBI double. Florida State took the lead for good in the second as Rafael Lopez tied the score with a leadoff home run and following a walk and a single, Devon Travis knocked in the go-ahead run with a fielder's choice.
The Seminoles would score five times in the fourth, with four runs coming in on McGee's bases-loaded home run, and five more times in the fifth before tacking on two runs in the eighth to close out the scoring.
After managing five hits in the first two innings off of FSU starter Brian Busch (1-0), the Pride was held hitless for the next seven innings by Busch and three relievers.Boyd finished with two hots on the day, while Justin Gonzalez was 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Rob Kumbatovic (0-2) took the loss as he lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, 11 runs (nine earned) and six walks with four strikeouts.had two of Hofstra's five hits.
The Pride conclude their series with the Seminoles on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. David D'Errico will start for the Pride against the Seminoles' Scott Sitz.
