Hempstead, NY - Sophomore pitcher David D'Errico has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 8, it was announced today by the league office.

D'Errico (North Kingstown, RI) pitched six shutout innings in Hofstra's 5-0 win over the 14th-ranked University of Miami (FL) Hurricanes. He allowed five hits, all singles, walked two and struck out four in improving to 5-5 on the season. The win represents the highest-ranked opponent that Hofstra has ever defeated.

The shutout, which D'Errico combined with senior reliever Jeff Guthridge to post, was Hofstra's first of the season and the first since an 11-0 win over Fairfield on March 21, 2010.

This marks the first CAA Pitcher of the Week Award in D'Errico's career. The second-year righty is 5-5 on the season with a 3.97 ERA.

After the late season non-conference series in Miami, the Pride return to CAA action this week when they travel to Virginia Commonwealth University. The series will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday. First pitch Thursday and Friday is at 11:30 a.m., while Saturday's game begins at 11 a.m.
