Towson, MD - Austin Nyman was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Dalton Rouleau drove in three runs including the go-ahead score in the sixth as Hofstra posted an 11-6 win over Towson in the finale of a Colonial Athletic Association series at Schuerholz Field.
Hofstra improves to 31-19, 18-9 in the CAA with the win,
while Towson falls to 23-29, 13-15 in league play.The win also gave Hofstra the series win.
The Pride rallied from a 6-4 deficit with three runs in the sixth. Matt Reistetter singled and Taylor Stuart followed with a walk to bring up Nyman. The junior delivered a run scoring single that made it 6-5. After a ground out moved the runner up to second and third, Rouleau drove in both with a single to give the Pride a 7-6 lead.
Hofstra reliever Brett Schreiber then shut down the Tigers for the final four innings, allowing just four hits with two strikeouts to notch his third save. Cody Normand picked up the win in relief, improving to 3-0. Normand went 2 2/3 and allowed four hits and two runs.
The Pride put some distance between themselves and the Tigers with a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth. Danny Poma had an RBI single and Matt Ford added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, while Nyman had an RBI double in the ninth. Another run scored on a Towson error.
Dominic Fratantuono had three RBIs for Towson. Tiger relief pitcher Tyler Austin (2-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Hofstra had 15 hits on the afternoon, including three each from Reistetter and Kenny Jackson, and two from Poma (including his NCAA-leading 31st double).
Hofstra closes out the regular season this weekend, hosting William & Mary in a doubleheader Friday at a single game Saturday.
