Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will look for its first win of the season when it heads to West Lafayette, Indiana on Sunday to take on Purdue.
The game, which is part of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, will tip-off at 2 p.m. EST. Following the contest against the Boilermakers, Hofstra will host the Hempstead Subregional of the tournament next weekend. The three-day, four-team, six-game subregional will feature Hofstra, along with South Dakota State, District of Columbia and Marshall.
Hofstra (0-1) dropped its season opener at Monmouth on Friday by the score of 91-62. Hofstra was led in scoring by senior guard Stevie Mejia and sophomore guard Shaquille Stokes, who each tallied 12 points. The Pride got a great effort out of freshman forward Jimmy Hall, who notched a double-double in his debut with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Sunday’s game marks the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Purdue. Hofstra last played a current member of the Big 10 Conference during the 2010-11 campaign when the Pride dropped a 62-47 decision to Nebraska at the Honda Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Hofstra’s last game against a school that was in the Big Ten at the time of the game came during the 2000-01 season when Hofstra dropped a 74-71 contest to Penn State in the finals of the ECAC Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden.
Purdue (0-1) fell to Bucknell on Friday in its season opener, dropping a 70-65 decision to the Bison.
