Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will play its second straight local rival as the Pride travel to LIU Brooklyn on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matinee against the Blackbirds.

Saturday will be the 29th all-time meeting between Hofstra and LIU Brooklyn.  The Pride leads the all-time series, 16-12, and won last season’s meeting 89-71 in Hempstead.  The first meeting between the squads occurred during the 1958-59 campaign with Hofstra earning a 97-62 victory.  LIU last defeated Hofstra during the 1987-88 season.

Hofstra (3-6) suffered a 52-44 setback to Wagner on Tuesday despite a game-high 16 points from sophomore guard Taran Buie.  Junior forward Stephen Nwaukoni played well for the Pride as well as he pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with six points.  Senior guard Matt Grogan tied his career-high, one game after setting it, with seven points against the Seahawks.

Buie leads Hofstra with 14 points a game, while Mejia averages 10 points and leads the Pride with 32 assists this season.  Nwaukoni is solid on the glass with 7.3 caroms per contest.

LIU Brooklyn is 2-4 this season, having won its last two games over Columbia and Lafayette.  

The Blackbirds have four players averaging double figures this season led by Jamal Olasewere’s 20 points per game.
