Hempstead, NY – On Tuesday, October 13th, Hofstra University held its CAA Blood Drive, which was coordinated by the New York Blood Center. This drive brought in 317 units of blood, breaking the previous school record of 312 units. A number of administrators and staff participated in the drive, as well as several teams, including the women's lacrosse team, the women's softball team, and the men's and women's tennis team. The total units of blood collected at Hofstra will be included in the CAA Blood Challenge standings, which will be announced at the end of November. The 2008 event resulted in 3,472 actual donors and 3,632 productive units of blood from the 12 CAA campuses, which represented a three percent increase over the 2007 totals and more than three times the amount collected during the inaugural blood challenge in 2002.
