Hempstead, NY - The 2011 Hofstra Baseball Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at the Long Island Marriott.

Davey Johnson, who managed the New York Mets to the 1986 World Series title, will be the honored guest and featured speaker.  Johnson played 13 seasons in the majors, made four All-Star Game appearances and received the Rawlings Gold Glove Award three times as a second baseman.  He also won two World Series titles as a player, in 1966 and 1970, with the Baltimore Orioles.  Johnson most recently managed Team USA in the World Baseball Classic and was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in August 2010.
Last year's event raised more than $5,000.  Proceeds help with the team's early-season trips to the south which are vital to the team's preparation.  The funds raised also provide additional resources for recruiting, equipment and scholarships.

Financial contributions, along with other donated items, will be accepted.  Items such as tickets to a sporting event or non-sporting event, an autographed ball, picture or jersey and many other items will be auctioned off the night of the event.

Space is limited to 150 guests for the event and tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $125 per person in advance and $175 per person on the day of the event.

To purchase tickets, contact the Athletic Development  Office at (516) 463-6144.  Checks can also be mailed payable to Hofstra University.  Other gifts to Hofstra Baseball may also be made by calling the number above or mailing a check (please write "No Tickets Needed").
