Bill Durkin, a 12-year veteran coach in the CAA/Atlantic 10/Yankee Conference, is in his second season as the Pride's offensive run game coordinator and offensive line coach and his first as assistant head coach, having earned the promotion in January 2009. In his first season with the Pride last season, his young, inexperienced line recorded the best rushing average since the 2001 season.
Durkin came to Hofstra in the spring of 2008 after 11 seasons as the University of Richmond, where he was part of four conference championship teams and is partly credited for developing the offensive line that led to a national championship in 2008. He joined the Spiders' program in 1997 as tight ends and offensive tackles coach and coached two all-conference selections and one All-American during his three seasons in that capacity. Durkin coached Richmond running backs from 2000 through the 2003 season before assuming the role of offensive line coach from 2004 through 2007. He added the run game coordinator title in 2007 as well. The Spiders broke school records for rushing offense, total offense, total points scored, and single-game total offense and rushing offense marks in 2007 as Richmond advanced to the NCAA FCS Championship semifinals. In posting their third consecutive winning season for the first time in 52 years, the Spiders set a school-record with 11 winsDurkin, who began his coaching career as a strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts in 1995 and 1996, was a four-year letterman, a two-year team captain and first team all-conference selection in 1992 and 1993, and a consensus first team All-American in 1993 at UMass. He was named to the Yankee Conference 50th Anniversary All-Star Team. Following graduation, he played with the New England Patriots and the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, as well as the Shreveport Pirates and the Baltimore Stallions of the Canadian Football League.
Bill and his wife, Victoria, have two children, Ryan (5) and Rachel (3).
