Charles Jenkins finished his junior season with the Hofstra Men's Basketball team in 2009-10. He became only the ninth player in the history of the Haggerty Award to win the honor twice, and has a chance to become only the third player to win it three times, joining Jim McMillian of Columbia and Chris Mullin of St. John's. He was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2009-10.
Jenkins became only the second player in school history to pass the 1,000 point plateau as a sophomore, when he reached the milestone in the regular season finale against UNC Wilmington. He has 1,767 points in his first three seasons, already ranking him eighth in Hofstra history, and putting him on pace to break the school record of 2,276, set by Antoine Agudio.
Jenkins averaged 20.6 points per game in 2009-10, ranking him 20th in the nation in scoring. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, making him one of only five players in the nation to average at least 20 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. His 38 points against Fairfield on Nov. 30 marked the highest point total for a Hofstra player since Speedy Claxton scored 40 twice in the 1999-2000 season.
