Hempstead, NY - Hofstra Men's Basketball Coach Tom Pecora today announced the signings of two players to national letters of intent during the fall signing period.
Small forward Marvin Dominique (Mirimar, FL/Mirimar HS/Winchendon Prep) and combo guard Devon McMillan (Uniondale, NY/Uniondale HS) will join the Pride for the 2010-11 season.
"We're excited that both players decided to join our program," said Pecora. "Both of them should step in and have an immediate impact next year."
Dominique, a 6-7, 190-pound wing forward, averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 rebounds last season for Mirimar High School in Florida. He capped off his season with 22 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in a conference playoff loss to Ely. He also had a game with 19 points and 20 rebounds during the regular season. Dominque is attending Winchendon Prep School in Massachusetts this season, which has also produced current Hofstra players Greg Washington (Centereach, NY), David Imes (Brooklyn, NY) and Yves Jules (Brooklyn, NY).
"Marvin just continues to grow and grow as a player," said Pecora. "He's doing a great job at Winchendon both on and off the court, and should bring us a tremendous amount of athleticism on the perimeter."
McMillan averaged 12.9 points last year for Uniondale High School, while also averaging 11.1 rebounds despite standing only 5-11. He also averaged 5.6 assists and 4.8 steals per game. He played his first two seasons of scholastic basketball at Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, where he won back-to-back state titles in 2007 and 2008. Last year, he helped Uniondale to a 21-3 record and a spot in the Class AA state semifinals.
"Devon is a proven winner wherever he's been," said Pecora. "He's won state championships at Lincoln and had a great season last year at Uniondale. He's been a part of two great programs, and in addition to his offensive skills, he is a tenacious defender."
Hofstra will have room to sign one more player during the spring signing period, if it chooses. The Pride loses two scholarship players after this season in seniors Cornelius Vines (Syracuse, NY) and Miklos Szabo (Szeghalom, Hungary), and has one extra scholarship available that is not being used this season.
