MLAX: Hofstra Heads To Syracuse For Closed Scrimmages Saturday

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team will continue their preseason preparations on Saturday, January 30 when the Pride travel to Syracuse, NY for scrimmages against the Orange of Syracuse and the Dolphins of Le Moyne College at the Ensley Athletic Center on the Syracuse campus.

Due to space and safety concerns, both scrimmages at Syracuse are closed to the general public.

After two weeks of preseason drills and with just three weeks remaining before the 2016 season opener for the Pride at the sixth-ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina, Hofstra Head Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney, who is entering his entering his 10th season with the Pride, is looking forward to seeing how his team performs in game-like conditions.

Tierney has a 42-man squad this season which includes 28 returnees and eight starters. Leading the returnees is 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year, senior Sam Llinares. The Hauppauge native tallied 33 goals and 24 assists last season to lead the conference in goals and points (57). He was also named the 2016 CAA Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the preseason all-conference squad.

The 14 newcomers on the Pride roster could be a key factor in the success of the Hofstra season in 2016. While Hofstra will have two more scrimmages, against Hobart and Rutgers, at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, February 6, Tierney will be looking for positive indicators on new replacements all over the field but especially at the defensive midfield unit, where Ryan Rielly, Stave Romano and John Reicherter roamed for four seasons to create a lethal transitional unit. Tierney will be looking at shuffling some personnel to fill in the gaps and maximize potential this season.

Hofstra kicks off the regular season on Saturday, February 20 at the University of North Carolina, which is ranked sixth in the USILA/Nike Preseason Coaches Poll. The Pride will begin their home schedule on Saturday, February 27 against Princeton University. Game time at Shuart Stadium is 3 p.m.
