WBB: Durant Named Second-Team All-Met

New York – Hofstra sophomore forward Ashunae Durant was named to the All-Met second team, the Met Basketball Writers Association announced today.

Durant was one of just 10 players to make either the first or second team. The 5'10" forward will be among the group honored at the 83rd NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott on Tuesday in Tarrytown, New York.

Hofstra made the Women's National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals for just the second time in program history with Durant playing a major role for a team that went 25-9. The Newark, New Jersey product averaged 11.4 points. Her 8.9 rebounding average was second in the Colonial Athletic Association and her 46.6 percent shooting was fifth on the league's field-goal percentage leaderboard.

Durant, who was the 2015 CAA Rookie of the Year, was named the All-Met Rookie of the Year in 2014-15 and followed that up by playing in 32 games and averaging 32.8 minutes while compiling 10 double-doubles this season.

Army West Point's Kelsey Minato was named the All-Met Player of the Year while her coach, Dave Magarity, was selected as the Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year for the second time.

The All-Met first team included Rutgers' Kahleah Cooper, St. John's Danaejah Grant and Aliyyah Handford, Marist's Tori Jarosz and Seton Hall's Tabatha Richardson-Smith.

Joining Durant on the second-team was Iona's Joy Adams, Sacred Heart's Hannah Kimmel, Rutgers' Tyler Scaife and Columbia's Camille Zimmerman.

Durant and Zimmerman were the only two underclassmen to be named to either of the first two teams. No freshmen were selected to either squad.
