Hofstra Battles Before Falling To Lipscomb And #17 Georgia

Athens, GA - The Hofstra softball team took on Lipscomb and #17 Georgia today at the University of Georgia Classic at Jack Turner Stadium and fell in both games. The Pride gave two strong efforts as they dropped a narrow 3-1 decision to the Bisons before giving the Bulldogs a battle in an 8-0 defeat.

Hofstra slipped to 0-7 with the two losses. Lipscomb is now 3-5, while Georgia is 8-4.

Game 1 - Lipscomb 3, Hofstra 1
Lipscomb got on the board first in the opening inning as Kamrie Rich doubled home Presley Leebrick for the game's first tally. The Bisons added two more runs in the third inning as Leebrick and Rich added RBIs to make it 3-0. Hofstra would battle back in the sixth inning as Chelsea Manto got it started with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice from Kasey Collins. WIth a runner on second, Meghan Giordano brought home Manto with a single to center field to make it a 3-1 ball game. Hofstra continued to put the pressure on Lipscomb in the inning, including having two runners on with two outs before the Bisons got out of the inning with a Pride ground out to second. Giordano finished with two hits in the game, while Emma Brennan worked four solid innings in relief for the Pride and allowed no runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Game 2 - #17 Georgia 8, Hofstra 0 (6)
Hofstra gave #17 Georgia all it could handle in the early innings before the nationally-ranked Bulldogs scored four times in the fourth and sixth innings to take an 8-0 victory. Angelina Ioppolo had two of the Pride's five hits and was joined in the hit column by Collins, Giordano, and Manto. Hofstra had multiple scoring opportunities in the early innings leaving a runner on base in each of the first four innings. The sixth inning would see the Pride give the Bulldogs all they could handle as Becca Vaillancourt walked with one out and then with two outs Ioppolo moved her over to third with a single. With two runners on and two outs, Hofstra would load the bases as Kayla Wilson was hit by a pitch. Hofstra was unable to tally any runs in the inning, though, as Georgia got out of the inning with a strikeout.

Hofstra is back in action tomorrow, taking on the same two teams. The Pride will face Georgia at 3 p.m. and Lipscomb at 5:30 p.m.
